Cataclysm beta build 12942 has introduced most of the changes to the glyph system. I've already touched on the glyph pane updates in the recent Cataclysm UI enhancements article, so I'll mostly focus on the system itself for this preview. As a side note, the majority of this system should be live on the PTR as well, so you can hop over to check it out if you're not in the beta.
Glyph Types
Glyphs come in three types as of Cataclysm.
Prime
These glyphs are designed to directly enhance core abilities you will use for your chosen specialization and are almost always percentage increases to damage or healing. However, they're sometimes more creative, such as Glyph of Hemorrhage.
Examples:
* [Glyph of Bloodthirst] - Increases the damage of Bloodthirst by 10%.
* [Glyph of Heart Strike] - Increases the damage of your Heart Strike ability by 50%.
* [Glyph of Hemorrhage] - Your Hemorrhage ability also causes the target to bleed, dealing 40% of the direct strike's damage over 24 sec.
Major
These glyphs usually enhance your abilities in other ways beyond simply increasing the damage. These enhancements are things like increased range, larger radius for AoEs, longer duration emergency buffs, increased threat generation, reduced resource costs of core abilities, etc.
Examples:
* [Glyph of Dancing Rune Weapon] - Increases your threat generation by 50% while your Dancing Rune Weapon is active.
* [Glyph of Gouge] - Your Gouge ability no longer requires that the target be facing you.
* [Glyph of Lightning Shield] - Your Lightning Shield can no longer drop below 3 charges from dealing damage to attackers.
Minor
These glyphs are typically fluff enhancements, commonly referred to as "quality of life" enhancements by the designers. They will do things like remove reagent costs, reduce resource costs of buffs, increase buff durations, etc.
Examples:
* [Glyph of Mirror Image] - Your Mirror Images cast Arcane Blast or Fireball instead of Frostbolt depending on your primary talent tree.
* [Glyph of Path of Frost] - Your Path of Frost ability allows you to fall from a greater distance without suffering damage.
* [Glyph of Poisons] - You apply poisons to your weapons 50% faster.
Glyph Lists
The MMO-Champion database has been updated with many of the glyphs currently implemented in the Cataclysm beta. Click the links below to browse glyphs specific to your class. The glyph system is enabled in-game for all classes, it's just taking a bit of time for the databases to pull in updated items due to file changes with the expansion.

Removing Glyphs
Players will need a special reagent to remove a glyph from their active set. Players below level 81 will be able to use Vanishing Powder,
while players 81 and above will have to use Dust of Disappearance.
As the tooltip states, the powers to remove glyphs can also be made by scribes. Their recipes are:
* Vanishing Powder - Midnight Ink x1
* Dust of Disappearance - Blackfallow Ink x2
Unlocking Glyph Slots
With Cataclysm, the levels in which you unlock glyph slots has changed. I've included a screenshot example from a level 29 character. You'll see that I've unlocked one set of slots already, with the others unlocking at level 50 and level 75 respectively. The glyphs unlock as follows:
* Level 25 - 1 Prime, 1 Major, 1 Minor
* Level 50 - 1 Prime, 1 Major, 1 Minor
* Level 75 - 1 Prime, 1 Major, 1 Minor
Learning Glyphs
One of the best things about the new system has to be the ability to learn glyphs. It's simple, too. Either make the glyph yourself with Inscription, or purchase it from other players. You only need one of each glyph!
Once you have the glyph, simply right-click it to trigger its "Use" effect. It will permanently teach you the glyph and you'll now see that glyph go from grayed out to lit up on your glyph pane.
After you have the glyph added to your glyph pane, you can add and remove it as much as you want, as long as you have the powder required to remove an active glyph.
