Ramblings of the Past Year from Snoozle

Sometimes it's interesting to see things from an insider's view in terms of how a forum is run as opposed to the daily conversations in Aion Discussion. Having been here for over a year as a moderator now, I thought I'd just highlight some of the quirky things that have happened on our forum.

I joined the site in June of 2009 after the beta weekends started. At the time I'd been lurking on the site for quite a while and decided to finally join in order to post as Aion looked like a game I might play for a while. Little did I know that I'd still be here over a year later and as a red name on top of it. O.O

I quite enjoyed the initial contest for an Aion Collectors edition box, which was won by the following entry:

The site turned out to be a lot of fun and I started posting about potential changes such as renaming General Discussion to Aion Discussion. After I went through and reported several pages of the guides section for not being guides, I decided to apply for a moderator position and was accepted through a rather unusual PM along with Aion Bunny and Chalky.

On September 22, 2009, AionSource went down when over 100,000 concurrent users hit the site during the official launch of Aion in North America. It is not commonly known, but that's also when we were hit by wave after wave of spam from gold sellers. Moderators went the extra mile in the mass deletions that occurred in order to try and keep the forum from devolving into chaos. And believe me, the site was trying really hard to devolve.

It was at this time when we saw the creation of many guides for Aion including the infamous Very short guide to Bust size in Character Creation and the Complete Guide to the Complainer.

In October, the great Tutty in the sky spoke his wishes to us and another contest was created by AionSource - the Where's Tutty Mystery Event. There were all sorts of suspects as shown below and our reader's decided that of them, Ampeis was the one who most likely did it. Will we have another good mystery this year?

We got that figured out and even made a few changes to forums along the way in order to make things easier to access. Thanks to the SOE skills of the staff, we even hit a few top search spots for specific Google searches. I'm not entirely sure we planned that, but ummmmm, go us! I think we're still looking at improving our search terms as we've got a lot of good information in the guides section that is honestly just buried there. I know I always look up our petal guide whenever I want to know about colours for instance, but most people probably don't even know it's there. And some of the guides that Yasashiku wrote for the masks ( Hidden Fire Mask and Legend of the Sirocco Mask) are just very good.

At some point we decided to play an April Fool's joke on everybody and released a fake moderation forum consisting entirely of sexy asian females and funny emoticons. We also released some fake patch notes (written by yours truly) that featured the infamous AS QQ glasses. The idea is that they make your face go all blotchy after wearing them, although maybe the effect just occurs for those people who want to QQ on AionSource
