With patch 4.2 - Rage of the Firelands upon Azeroth, a bunch of new content has added to Cataclysm, World of Warcraft's most recent expansion. But meanwhile, Blizzard has prepared more than that know as "World of Warcraft Starter Edition" for those who want to give WoW a shot.
Previously, the free trial was limited to a designated amount of time (gone are the 10- and 14-day trial restrictions) and when the time was up, players needed to pay in order to continue playing. But now, new players can have an unlimited-time trial for World of Warcraft until they cap out at level 20. The Starter Edition doesn't include Cataclysm content but Draenei and blood elf characters are still available for new players, having previously been locked behind a purchase of Burning Crusade.
This will give new WoW players an unlimited chance to see what Blizzard has offered. If you decide to update, you can purchase World of Warcraft and the expansion, Burning Crusade, for $20. But existing subscribers who haven't got around Burning Crusade content now will receive them for free.
